  Professor (Dr) Syed Ali Irfan Naqvi (Urdu: سید علی عرفان نقوی; Born 28 February 1965) also known as Arshi Naqvi , is a writer, poet, scholar, critic, and educationist. After completing his primary and higher education in Calcutta, he found work as an Associate Professor in the Department of Urdu at Kidderpore College, Kolkata in 1998 and also serves as the Head of the department there. [1] He has also been attached with the Department of Urdu at the University of Calcutta as a Guest Lecturer since 2012. Beside these, Naqvi has also acted as an Honourable Member of the West Bengal School Service Commission (S.R.) since 2012. [2] He is the first Muslim professor of Urdu to be appointed as such. He is also an Honourable Member of the Board of Studies (UG) at the University of Calcutta and is a Life Member of the Asiatic Society, Kolkata.
